THE STATE OF MIND

Little children, if you are not learned
You will be missing a great deal of African history
The exploitation of our lands and the discovery of slavery
Not kings and queens, but prisoners they made our ancestors to be

The Europeans stole our linage and almost robbed us naked
Great men like Mandela, Martin Luther king
Fought off inequality against the black race until total liberation
As young as you are, the future is brighter when you have education

Little girls, like Dora Akuyili and Oprah Winfield
A great woman, you will come to be acknowledged
Boys, instead of becoming a murderer, rapist or terrorist
End up in prison for been a menace to the society

You can become a doctor, lawyer, a policeman or geologist
Protecting the human race and the world to exist
Providing to your family, building a happy home
Discouraging the war, are actions that brings hope

Learning means to stay in class, read all the books you can find
In no time will you have a positive future in your hand
The greatest gift given to man after the creation of the world
Is the power of self will, no one can limit the state of your mind

Always obey your parents, do what they tell you is good
The older you are the more valuable should be your state of mind
You can teach other young ones too as you learn and grow
I do not want you to become old and cannot read and write like some do

I AM YOURS AND YOU ARE MINE

On the journey of a thousand miles
What keeps me going are your thoughts
My heart is very fond of you
Told me its difficult to live without you

Together we built blocks of compassion above the sky
Painted the world with the colour of your smile
The night became homely and bright
My dreams came to stay hence forth that night

Love, they say its dispensable
But love is the reason the world is beautiful
Why the sun and moon is alive, and the stars
For I could see them through your eyes

If the frame in my heart get broken into a million pieces
Each will carry but treasurable memories
Of all the moment's spent with you
For life would be meaningless without you

WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU FALL IN LOVE?

The day I met Ibinabo, I fell in love without holding back
Our relationship looks promising, life was sunny and bright
Then the distance came and never left
Now I am so lonely in the dark, cannot find daylight

I met this girl Yetunde, told me she is a virgin, I should be patient
I could swear I took her for an angel, ignored everything my friends said
I trusted her, not until I saw her divorce paper hidden in her luggage
Two kids and out of wedlock, is too hard to comprehend

I sponsored Amaka through college until she graduated
My home and everything I had, to her I gave two third
The next day she started acting funny and keeping late night
She tells me sorry darling, you are not educated

There is this girl I met in church, proposed to her, wedding invitations all set
I had a stressful day at work, thought I go back home for comfort
There she lies in my bed sleeping with my best friend
It is the devil she says, your feelings I never meant to hurt

The world I have come to know is dead
I can't find love anymore; it is no use thinking about it
Pain, rejection and betrayal is all I get
I swear, I will never fall in love again until my death

I tried but there is not enough love in this world
Nothing I do makes a difference to change a girls mind
Not to put my trust on anyone, regretfully I have decided
It is better that way, if I want to keep what is left in my heart
