THE SCENT OF SORROW

You say I am beautiful
But love could not find me
You say I am happy
But I am dying in silence

If wishes are real
Why am I still dreaming?
Every day, out on the street
All I see is human suffering

Does it mean the world is lost?
She is unambiguously disoriented
That love cannot wipe away the scar
Not even for the tears of a little child

If this is the definition of life
I will be better off dead
I can no longer bear to see humanity
Treated like stray goats

Do not we used to have conviction?
A mind not of hateful retention
There are bloodstains on the side walk
Yet we walk blindly and could not see

Is it until the sun is gone?
The stars and moon burnt
That we will come to perceive
The scent of sorrow

LIFE WITHOUT A DREAM

Life is awful without dream
There is nothing to propel the heart within
To strife to attain greatness
Instead she wanders in obliviousness

The cloud is high above the sky
But a little bird never gives up flying
She let the wind hold her wings
Guide her until she reach up to touch the sky

How long will you depend on food and shelter
Feeding from the hands of your aging parent
Yet defying everything they taught you
Because you met life in a platter of gold

How then can you have a brighter future?
If you are always doing what is wrong
The path you are walking leads to a dark torrent
It is not too late to learn to evolve

No doubt the world is full of discouragement
This is merely to test the strength of your mind
When confronted with challenges
Do you put up a fight or do you sit down and cry?

BENUE KILLINGS

Dedicated to the victims of Omusu village, Ojigo Ward, Edumoga in Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state by suspected herdsmen

But they are not murderers
In their sleep, why do they kill the villagers?
They took up guns and cutlasses
Maiming an adolescent in her mother’s arms

Cannot you see there is too much bloodshed?
How long shall we keep sucking human blood?
Who told you your acts will not be judged?
For the guilty ones also justice will bleed

Children are homeless, mothers are devastated
Our fathers are afraid to step out on broad day light
You ignorant fools, fighting someone else’s war
Do not let it be too late before you shut the door
